Episode 20 of the second series was the first to feature Angela Morley (then known as Wally Stott) conducting the orchestra, according to Roger Wilmut’s Goonography. Up until then she had been providing arrangements for Max Geldray’s musical numbers. She took charge of the musical side permanently from the start of the third series, which began in November 1952.
This particular episode was broadcast on 10 June 1952, and can be found in the Radio Times here.
Another documentary today – this time, ‘Spike Milligan – A Loose Canon’, broadcast in April 1998. I haven’t been able to find much more information about the programme itself, but it is an interesting take on Spike’s legacy. I have questions for some those making weak excuses for his more questionable humour, but nevertheless it’s worth a watch.
