The Golden-Voiced Goon

On this day in 1955, mayhem came to Morecambe...

Harry Secombe headlined a show at Morecambe's Winter Gardens, billed as "The Golden-Voiced Goon", supported by his old pal Spike Milligan ("late of the human race") and harmonica virtuoso Max Geldray.

In true variety style, the show also featured impressions (Janet Brown), dancing (Kendor Brothers), performing dogs (Corin and Domino), and a horse (Goldie). Goodness knows what state the stage was in when Harry finally stepped onto it.
